Imagine your everyday life transformed into your favourite arthouse movie, where music alters the mundane into the extraordinary. Enter A. Johanson, a true sonic storyteller. His music has the ability to narrate tales and paint landscapes in the mind's eye, conjuring images effortlessly as though the music itself awakens the visual storyteller within you. Fusing intimate folk songs with guitar-driven indie tracks and sweeping cinematic soundscapes, he crafts the soundtrack of your daily life.
Growing up on a tranquil Dutch countryside farm, Johanson found his passion for music at an early age with a toy piano and his mother’s guitar. Moving to the city as a young adult, he discovered a new layer of inspiration, merging the vibrant energy of urban life with his rural roots to shape his distinctive style. His music draws from influences such as Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and Sigur Rós, as well as modern composers like Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds.
His debut album, Who Are We Fooling (2022), explored the relationship between humanity and nature, while A Soundtrack to a Never-Ending Story (2024) expanded his sonic palette and introduced immersive audio performances during a national tour across the Netherlands.
In 2025, Johanson released his third studio album, The Seasons, written and produced in a cabin in the woods after moving away from the city. The album marks a significant shift in his style, moving from intimate folk toward a rawer, post-rock-inspired sound. While maintaining his emotional depth, The Seasons captures a sense of renewal and hope through expansive arrangements and textured instrumentation.
With over three million streams across platforms, recognition as one of the standout acts of the Popronde tour (3voor12), airplay on national radio, and music featured in film and TV productions such as VPRO’s 3 op Reis and Videoland’s Bennie (2025), A. Johanson continues to establish himself as a compelling voice in Dutch alternative music.
